Valentine's Day Sweetie

My son was born a little less than a month before Valentine's Day. I couldn't see taking him in for photos since we had gotten newborn photos from the hospital. I brought him a cute little footie pj, took out my trusty old Kodak Easy Share and shot away. It didn't go too well. I mostly shot up his nose, got some really bad shots and still felt them worthy enough to share with family and friends. Now I don't say that to discourage anyone, because it is SO, so important to get shots of a young child. But I do sort of cringe at these! If I do a newborn shoot with you, rest assured you won't get a folder full of up the nose shots!

Best of the Bunch
When Babies Attack. Seriously, what is with that face and why did I do this to him?
Up the nose and not enough head support.

For his first birthday, I had an area photographer shoot him in red and white. I didn't even bother trying that Valentine's Day. Here's one of him around that time in 2012. By then, I upgraded to a Nikon Coolpix.

Another "face"

I finally had enough of point and shoots, because the poor shooting was obviously their fault, right. LOL! Couldn't be the user. I then decided to practice on my unsuspecting child again. I do think these are better, but I definitely needed improvement. I decided to tape a tablecloth to my kitchen wall. Since it is right next to the sliding glass door, this resulted at some crazy shadows!

Holy Shadows

I love his sweet face!

This past year, I've really been working on my shooting. I've also just started to get serious about editing as well. I can see noticeable improvement from last year to this year. There are a few things I still need to improve on, but I really like seeing my progress. If I was to do this again thought, I would use a solid shirt, since I find the plaid paired with the hearts distracting:)

The lollipop is how we got him to cooperate

Sweet Eyes

Love his coloring and his sweet face here.

Katfish Photography Introduction

Hi, I'm Katie!

I have always had a passion for photography. It has been a fun hobby and a way to document my life. I had my son in 2011. After relying on others for professional photographs of my young son, I looked for a way to do it myself!

This led to the purchase of my first Nikon DSLR in July 2012. That lit a fire in my belly to actually use this very expensive gizmo to capture great photos of my family. I studied books, attended two eight week sessions at my local community college, a workshop with a local photographer and constantly studied Facebook pages and blogs of various types of photographers.

In May 2013, I started offering sessions with families in order to hone my skills. This led to my Katfish Photography Facebook Page. I now do sessions during the weekends with area families. I am so happy to be able to provide others with beautiful images of their own.

I am hoping to use this blog to document my progress, post on skills that I learn as well as share sessions with my wonderful clients.

I look forward to sharing with you!
